There's nothing better than sitting out in the sun enjoying a cold drink in a relaxing beer garden on a bank holiday weekend. If you’re heading out or meeting up with friends for Jubilee festivities in Norwich, you're in luck! The city has recently been crowned ‘Beer Garden Capital of the UK’.
A recent study investigated how many beer gardens are in major cities in the UK. In addition, the study looked at the cheapest places to grab a pint in the sun.
With 86 out of 100 possible points, Norwich came out on top. Partly because the city boasts more beer gardens than any other city with its size, with about 5 pubs for every 10,000 people, but also because it enjoys generally favourable weather conditions year-round.
Here are three of our favourite local pubs with the best outside dining –
Set amongst the bustle of Unthank Road, William & Florence is the perfect spot, whether you’re looking to catch up with friends over a coffee, a pint or meal whatever the time of day. The large, sheltered garden is a hidden gem – in the summer you can catch the sunshine there all day long and then into the evening with lighting and heaters. The mixed platter is an absolute must try, complemented with a refreshing cocktail or pint of Adnams!
A short stumbling distance from the Arlington Park office, our Earlham Road neighbours The Black Horse have recently transformed their outside space to make it even more welcoming for guests, with a patio, sofas and festoon lighting, you can lose track of time into the summer evening. This dog friendly pub and restaurant serves incredible food ranging from Tapas style snacks, hearty meals, and delicious sharing boards as well as craft beer, real ales, and cocktails.
Celebrating its 200th year this year The Plough is within the Norwich Lanes in a beautiful and historic building. Serving traditional pub snacks alongside its delicious home brewed craft beer (Look out for 37 Corgis, a limited-edition beer crafted for the jubilee!) The beautiful cottage-like beer garden and the back is a perfect oasis where you can easily forget that you’re right in Norwich City centre.
